Message: It’s no secret to those of us that have lived in Oklahoma all our lives that our state is more than just “OK” as the old license tags used to say. I’ve said more and more lately, “If there’s ever been a time to live in the Oklahoma City Metro, it’s now.” Living here exposes us to some interesting dynamics that make our state unique, one of which is how our real estate market relates to markets elsewhere in the country. If you read this story from the Associated Press or some of the recent slanted and inaccurate commentary from the Journal Record, you might think that the real estate market here is gasping for breath like it is in other markets around the country. The key thought, though, is that these and other “national stories” only consider a more broad-perspective of numbers and statistics that unfairly stigmatize our market with the downturn of others. It’s important to note that the Oklahoma City Metropolitan market is not subject to the extreme fluctuations (positive or negative) that are found in California, Arizona, Nevada, Florida, and others where property values have skyrocketed to astounding levels. We are are fortunate in that we are in many ways insulated from the adversities other markets experience, thanks in particular to the unique economic factors (cost of living, abundance of land...) that we enjoy. Richard Mize provides an accurate perspective of the true state of the Oklahoma City area market in his story, ”Area home sales defy national slump” in the Oklahoman, which I invite you to read. Now is an excellent time to buy a new home in the Oklahoma City, Edmond, or Deer Creek areas. Our property values remain solid, with steady, true growth that calculates into a sound investment for the homeowner. In the coming months, we’ll be providing statistical analysis on JCH’s history of strong resale values that will better illustrate how seriously we take the investment performance of our product. With that in mind, if you’ve been considering a new home, buy with confidence, knowing that now is as good of time as any to make one of, if not the most important investment of your life.
